Melbourne Instruments' Roto-Control device now compatible with Bitwig Studio after 2.0 firmware update.
Melbourne Instruments, a well-known name in the music technology industry, has announced a significant firmware update for its Roto-Control MIDI controller. This update brings a host of new features and improvements, making the device even more versatile and user-friendly.
The Roto-Control, a MIDI controller with eight motorized knobs, was first introduced on the company's NINA synth. With this update, it now offers support for Linux, expanding its compatibility across various platforms.
One of the key highlights of the update is the enhanced integration with Digital Audio Workstations (DAWs). Melbourne Instruments has integrated the Roto-Control with Bitwig Studio and Ableton Live, and with the 2.0 firmware update, Bitwig Studio support was officially added. For now, known supported DAWs include Bitwig Studio and Ableton Live, with future integrations beyond this yet to be explicitly detailed.
In PLUGIN Mode, plugin parameters and labels are lifted directly from the DAW and stored locally on the device. This means that users can control their plugins with precision and ease. In MIX Mode, Roto-Control's controls sync automatically with the mixer in Ableton and Bitwig, mapping its controls across Roto-Control's knobs and buttons. In Bitwig projects, track names and colours will appear on ROTO-Control's displays in MIX Mode, providing a visual aid for quick navigation.
The update addresses concerns about Roto-Control's lack of full integration with other DAWs. In response to community demand, the updated Roto-Control now offers integration with Bitwig Studio. Additionally, Roto-Control now supports Remote Control page navigation for Bitwig Studio.
In MIDI Mode, if you don't use Ableton Live or Bitwig Studio, you can still control your DAW with Roto-Control. The updated Roto-Control now allows sending MIDI notes and program changes using the controller's eight mechanical keyboard-style buttons. Custom mappings will be instantly recalled when opening plugins across any Bitwig project.
Moreover, the Roto-Control now offers manual mapping and customization of racks and macros in Ableton Live. This feature allows users to tailor the controller to their specific workflow, enhancing productivity and creativity.
The Roto-Control, which was previously described as "sleek, reasonably-priced, and excellent" in a review, is now an even more attractive choice for musicians and producers seeking a versatile and intuitive MIDI controller.
Users can find more information about the update and download it on Melbourne Instruments' website. With this update, Melbourne Instruments continues to demonstrate its commitment to innovation and customer satisfaction in the music technology industry.
