Melody King Vidyasagar performs first-ever live Malay song 'Cuba' at Mimifly's second KL concert, amazes 5,000 spectators
In the heart of Kuala Lumpur, the Axiata Arena was filled to capacity last Saturday night as music lovers gathered for "The Name is Vidyasagar Revisit," a concert organised by Venus Production. This was the maestro's second live performance in Malaysia, two years after his maiden concert in 2023, and was supported by Visit Malaysia 2026.
The evening began at 7pm and lasted for more than three hours, featuring over 30 songs from Vidyasagar's 36-year-long music career. The setlist primarily consisted of songs from blockbuster films released in the 2000s such as Dhool (2003), Thirumalai (2003), Ghilli (2004) and Majaa (2005).
A highlight of the concert was the performance of the song Cuba, penned by Shamimi, who is better known as Mimifly. The tune for Cuba was composed by Vidyasagar in less than 10 minutes, impressing everyone with his quick creativity. Mimifly delivered the Tamil lines with confidence and without any mistakes, aiming for a more feminine look compared to her usual style, dressed in a glowing copper red saree. The saree was part of fashion stylist Abu Shaef Hamza's collection Jaan, which debuted at KL Fashion Week 2025.
Mimifly's stylist, R. Yogash, stated that Mimifly wanted to project a Kajol-like look for the special performance. Malaysia's Tamil rap powerhouse Yogi B and Natchatra also joined the concert, performing "Happy New Year" from Kuruvi (2008).
Venus Production co-founder Shiva Ramana expressed his gratitude to Vidyasagar during the concert, while the show was stolen by Vidyasagar's son, Harsha Vardhan, with his electrifying dance moves. Other singers sharing the stage with Vidyasagar included Pushpavanam Kuppusamy, Madhu Balakrishnan, Karthik, Shweta Mohan, and budding talents from the reality singing show Super Singer.
The concert attracted more than 5,000 people, with Mimifly learning a few Tamil lines to interact with the audience before her performance, going beyond the customary "Vanakam" greeting. The Malaysia's Tamil music scene has seen an Indian music director, Vidyasagar, compose an entire Malay song for a Malaysian singer, Shamimi Amalina Norhisham, live in front of a crowd at Axiata Arena, marking a significant milestone in the collaboration between Indian and Malaysian music industries.
