Nagihan İlknur Akdevelioglu, a seasoned diplomat with a strong background in political science and international relations, has taken up her new role as the Consul General of Turkey in Frankfurt. This appointment, effective as of August 20, 2024, marks a significant step in strengthening the relations between Frankfurt and Fatih, a district of Istanbul, which have been twin cities since 2012.

Born in 1978 in Bursa, Akdevelioglu studied political science at Ankara University and later earned a master's degree in European studies at Boğaziçi University. Her career began in 2002 at a private bank's supervisory authority before joining the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2006.

The twin cities have cultivated an intensive exchange of schools, and the partnership association established immediately after the twinning has been instrumental in fostering this educational exchange. Moreover, numerous study and educational trips have been organised between the two cities, further enriching the cultural ties between them.

Economic relations between Germany and Turkey have also been a focus of attention. Discussions have served to maintain good relations and explore opportunities for mutual growth and development. As the Consul General, Akdevelioglu is expected to play a pivotal role in fostering these economic relations.

The Press Office of the State Capital Wiesbaden, located at Schlossplatz 6, 65183 Wiesbaden, is the primary point of contact for any questions or inquiries regarding the Consulate General of Turkey in Frankfurt. Citizens can also contact the responsible department or office of the State Capital Wiesbaden directly. The press office's website is www.wiesbaden.de/pressereferat.

It is worth noting that more than 16,000 Wiesbaden residents have Turkish roots, adding a unique cultural dimension to the city. The twinning of Wiesbaden and Fatih has not only strengthened the economic and educational ties between the two cities but also created a strong bond between the people of both cities.

The twinning of Wiesbaden and Fatih, a district located on the European side of Istanbul, has proven to be a fruitful partnership. Under the leadership of Consul General Akdevelioglu, it is expected that this partnership will continue to flourish, further enhancing the relations between Germany and Turkey.
