Granollers and Zeballos Claim US Open Doubles Title
Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos have triumphed in the men's doubles final at the US Open, securing their second Grand Slam title of the season. The duo from Argentina defeated Joe Salisbury and Neal Skupski in a thrilling three-set match on Arthur Ashe Court.
The final score was 3-6, 7-6 (7/4), 7-5, a result that came after the Hispanic-Argentine pair saved three match points in the deciding set. This victory marks the first time since 2019 that a men's pair has won two Grand Slam titles in the same season.
The match was a tense affair, lasting nearly two and a half hours. The British pair put up a strong fight, but Granollers and Zeballos' determination and skill shone through in the end.
The win at the US Open is the first for both Granollers and Zeballos, and it also marks Zeballos' first Grand Slam title. Zeballos becomes the first Argentine to win the US Open doubles tournament.
Granollers succeeds fellow countrymen Sergio Casal and Emilio Sanchez as US Open doubles champions. Casal and Sanchez won the title in 1988, with their opponents in the final retiring during the match.
Meanwhile, the women's singles final is set to begin. Amanda Anisimova (9) of the United States will face off against the world No.1 in the women's singles, Aryna Sabalenka. The women's singles final will take place on Center Court.
Granollers and Zeballos' victory this year at the US Open follows their success at Roland-Garros earlier in the season. The duo will no doubt be aiming to continue their winning streak and add more Grand Slam titles to their name in the future.
