The new AI organisation within Meta, Meta Superintelligence Labs, is at the forefront of these developments. Co-headed by Alexandr Wang, former CEO of Scale AI, and Nat Friedman, former CEO of GitHub, who were recruited early in 2025, the Labs are focusing on the development of Meta's next-generation model, Llama 5.
Meta has committed billions of dollars to this AI initiative, and dozens of leading AI researchers have been attracted by generous compensation packages. The priority for the Labs is to ensure that Llama 5 can compete with rivals in the AI industry.
