TransLink, the regional transportation authority for Metro Vancouver, Canada, is set to increase the number of electric buses in its fleet, thanks to a new funding programme from the Government of Canada.

The funding will support a gradual increase in the number of battery-electric buses, with TransLink ordering an additional 57 Nova LFSe+ models. This brings the total number of battery-electric buses TransLink plans to operate by 2030 to 178, a significant leap from the current 19.

The electrification of TransLink's bus fleet is part of a larger effort towards reducing emissions in the city. By transitioning to battery-electric buses, TransLink aims to decrease its carbon footprint and contribute to a cleaner, more sustainable urban environment.

The Nova LFSe+, a model of battery-electric bus, is known for its efficiency and eco-friendliness. TransLink has already begun operating 19 of these buses and is preparing to integrate the new additions into its network.

To facilitate the operation of battery-electric buses, TransLink has installed ten on-route overhead chargers in its network. These chargers allow buses to recharge while in service, ensuring minimal disruption to the transit schedule. More chargers will be installed as the fleet expands.

The use of on-route chargers is a strategic move by TransLink, enabling the efficient operation of battery-electric buses without the need for lengthy charging stops. This approach is expected to improve the overall efficiency and reliability of the transit system.

The expansion of TransLink's electric bus fleet is a significant step towards a more sustainable future for Vancouver. By reducing emissions and transitioning to cleaner, more efficient transportation methods, TransLink is leading the way in urban sustainability.
