Mets-linked motive discovered in Gregory Soto's pre-trade meeting with the Orioles
In a move aimed at bolstering their bullpen ahead of the trade deadline, the New York Mets have acquired left-handed pitcher Gregory Soto from the Baltimore Orioles. The acquisition was announced on Friday, with the trade sending minor league pitchers Wellington Aracena and Cameron Foster to the Orioles.
Soto, who expressed interest in joining the Mets due to their playing style, team culture, and the presence of many Latino players, has already shown promise against the Mets. In his two appearances against them, he pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings combined. This impressive performance against his potential new team was not lost on the Mets, who saw Soto's acquisition as an opportunity to strengthen their pitching rotation.
The Mets' professional baseball manager, Carlos Mendoza, will now have Soto at his disposal. Soto will be activated for Sunday's series finale against the Giants at Oracle Park.
The Mets' bullpen could use the boost, as Tylor Megill is currently on the 60-day injured list due to elbow inflammation. Megill's rehab will take him beyond August 14, leaving a gap in the Mets' pitching rotation.
The Mets have been performing well on the road this season, with a 3.94 ERA, the third best in the major leagues. They have also demonstrated a strong success rate in stolen base attempts, with an 89.4% success rate, the highest in the major leagues and best in franchise history. The Mets have successfully stolen bases in their past 25 attempts, the longest streak in MLB this season.
This recent success on the road has extended the Mets' road winning streak to five games. With the addition of Soto, the Mets aim to continue this winning streak and work towards their ultimate goal of winning a championship. Soto, who has expressed his desire to win a championship with the Mets, will undoubtedly play a crucial role in this pursuit.
