Miami Linebacker Charged with Three Instances of Vehicular Homicide
In a tragic turn of events, Miami Hurricanes linebacker Adarius Hayes finds himself in legal trouble following a fatal car accident that occurred on May 10, 2023, in Florida.
Hayes, a four-star prospect from Largo High School in his hometown of Largo, Fla., was driving a Dodge Durango when the incident took place. The crash involved a Kia Soul and resulted in the death of a 78-year-old woman and two children, ages 4 and 10.
According to reports, Hayes was driving nearly 80 mph at the time of the crash, far exceeding the speed limit of 40 mph. The crash occurred when Hayes' vehicle made a rapid and dangerous maneuver, colliding with the Kia while it was making a legal left-hand turn.
As a result of the accident, the children's father, who was sitting in the front passenger seat, sustained serious injuries.
Following the incident, Hayes turned himself in to police on Friday in his hometown of Largo, Fla. He is now facing three counts of vehicular homicide.
In a surprising turn, Hayes had a promising freshman season with the Hurricanes, playing in 12 games primarily on special teams and recording four tackles and one interception.
However, due to the ongoing legal proceedings, Hayes has been indefinitely suspended from all athletic-related activities by the school. As of now, there is no publicly available information regarding the responsible police officer or judge handling the case of Adarius Hayes.
