Michigan Online Gambling and Sports Betting Providers Generate $293.5 Million in Income During March
Michigan's online gambling heavyweights raked in a whopping $293.5 million last March, reporting a 9.3% increase compared to February. The lion's share of this revenue came from iGaming, which totaled $260.5 million, setting a new record high and surpassing the previous mark of $248.2 million set in January 2025. Interestingly, March 2025's sports betting gross receipts dipped to $33 million, down from the $46 million recorded in the previous month.
Monthly iGaming and Sports Betting Breakdown
The surge in iGaming gross receipts represents a substantial leap from February's $222.5 million. Breaking it down, the top contributors to this lucrative industry in the Wolverine State were BetMGM, FanDuel alongside MotorCity Casino, and DraftKings with Bay Mills Indian Community.
As for sports betting, despite the decline to $33 million in March, its overall growth remains noteworthy, considering it was only a budding market in Michigan. FanDuel and MotorCity dominated this segment, with DraftKings and BetMGM trailing closely behind.
Taxes and Contributions
Michigan's gaming regulators reaped their fair share, reporting $51.4 million in state taxes and payments in March. Casinos contributed $50.5 million to iGaming taxes and fees, with sports betting taxes and fees accounting for approximately $874,000.
The Crackdown on Unregulated Gambling
With 12 operators currently offering internet sports betting and 15 providing iGaming services, Michigan is vigilantly tackling the issue of unregulated gambling. This effort includes clamping down on unlicensed sweepstakes casinos, offshore sportsbooks, and sports prediction markets, with more than 20 offshore gambling sites already banned.
Last week, the Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB) launched a series of investigations into unlicensed sports prediction markets operating within the state. These platforms pose a threat to consumer protection and may jeopardize the integrity of Michigan's legal sports betting system. Examples of such platforms include ForecastEx2, Kalshi, Polymarket, and PredictIt, which facilitate trading of sports event predictions via contracts.
