In a nail-biting College Football game, Michigan State University emerged victorious against Boston College, securing a 42-40 victory in East Lansing.
Quarterback Aidan Chiles led the charge for the Spartans, completing 19 of 29 passes for a career-high four touchdowns and 231 yards. He also ran for a 3-yard touchdown and threw the winning 2-point conversion to Omari Kelly in double overtime.
Michigan State's punter Ryan Eckley also made a significant impact, averaging 54.7 yards per punt and landing two on the 1-yard line in the fourth quarter. This added an additional weapon to the Spartans' arsenal.
The game started off with a bang, as Boston College's Dylan Lonergan, who threw for 390 yards and four touchdowns in the season opener, found Jeremiah Franklin for a 6-yard touchdown pass to force a second overtime. However, the Eagles struggled with their running game, being held to 67 yards rushing by Michigan State.
In the second overtime, Boston College's Turbo Richard ran for an 8-yard touchdown. But the Eagles failed to convert the 2-point conversion, setting the stage for Chiles' heroics.
The game was tied at 27-all after Luca Lombardo made a 38-yard field goal with 76 seconds left for Boston College. Michigan State scored on the first possession of overtime on a 5-yard touchdown pass from Chiles to Jaye Coyne.
Both teams will be back in action on September 13. Michigan State hosts Youngstown State, while Boston College visits Stanford in the ACC opener for both schools.
This thrilling contest marks a strong start for both teams in the College Football season.
