ANS Expands Capabilities with Acquisition of Makutu

Digital transformation firm ANS has announced the acquisition of Makutu, a Derby-based consultancy specializing in data platforms, AI, and IoT. This latest move strengthens ANS's position to help organizations across the UK prepare for the future.

Makutu, founded in 2020, has quickly made a name for itself in the industry, earning a spot in Megabuyte's top five emerging players earlier this year. The consultancy boasts a team of 25 data architects, engineers, and AI experts, and their 'Microsoft-first' approach aligns with ANS's long-standing partnership with Microsoft.

ANS, which employs over 650 people, including more than 100 certified Microsoft specialists and four Most Valuable Professionals, stands to benefit greatly from Makutu's expertise. Makutu's services include Microsoft Fabric readiness, OneLake migration, predictive analytics, real-time IoT platforms, and they serve clients in local government, housing, utilities, and retail.

Richard Thompson, CEO at ANS, stated that the acquisition of Makutu will help accelerate their mission to make technology accessible and impactful for all organizations. He expressed confidence that the combined strengths of both companies will create a formidable force in the digital transformation landscape.

Simon Blewitt, CTO at Makutu, expressed his excitement about the acquisition, stating that it will provide their team with the scale and reach to maximize their expertise in designing and delivering data and AI solutions. He is proud of Makutu's reputation in the Microsoft ecosystem and looks forward to combining their innovation and technical depth with ANS's national presence and strong community values.

The acquisition is backed by Inflexion and Barings, two prominent investment firms. This move marks ANS's second acquisition in recent times, following their acquisition of Dynamics 365 specialist Preact in 2022.

Customers increasingly recognize that AI success depends on strong data foundations. With the addition of Makutu's capabilities, ANS is well-positioned to meet this growing demand. Makutu is also looking forward to this partnership, expressing their eagerness to join forces and create a more impactful future for their clients.

This news comes as NRG Therapeutics raises £50m to tackle neurodegenerative disorders, a development unrelated to the ANS-Makutu acquisition. Despite the ongoing challenges in the tech industry, it is clear that ANS continues to forge ahead, solidifying their position as a leader in digital transformation.
