Mid-transformation process underway for walk-only areas

Last Saturday, the city of Pforzheim organised a special event to celebrate the mid-construction phase of the ongoing renovation work in its pedestrian zone. The celebration, particularly attractive for children, transformed the Westliche area of the zone into a bustling construction site.

The city's Mobile Youth Work of the City Youth Ring set up a large pile of sand, inviting children to create their own construction site. They could operate small excavators at the sand pile, drive toy cars, forklifts, Unimogs, and tractors in the blocked-off area, providing hours of fun and learning.

Interactive activities were available at various stands on the market square. A spin-the-wheel game, a guessing game, and an information stand with vouchers added to the excitement. Local businesses also joined in, offering special deals during the celebration.

Visitors had the unique opportunity to view the city centre from a cherry picker, which was primarily used for tree care work or repairs to power lines. The view from the cherry picker, under a clear blue sky, was over the entire city, offering a bird's eye perspective of the ongoing renovation work.

Live music was provided on a small stage from the radio station "antenne 1", adding to the festive atmosphere. The market square was partially blocked off, with paths blocked by construction site huts, creating a genuine construction site feel.

The mid-construction celebration was a successful event, providing a fun and engaging way for children to learn about construction work and the city's ongoing renovation. The renovation work in the pedestrian zone is scheduled to be completed in November 2018.
