In the Republic of Belarus, a new decree has been published by the Council of Ministers, requiring foreign workers in specific professions to demonstrate proficiency in one of the country's state languages. This decree, known as Decree No 477, outlines a series of professions where language skills are essential.

The list of affected professions is comprehensive and includes roles such as drivers, waiters, hairdressers, salespersons, nurses, administrators, midwives, specialist doctors, paramedics, medical nurses and assistants, and doctor's assistants in ambulatory-polyclinic care.

The Ministry of Education will oversee the implementation of this decree, determining the maximum number of places available for assessments. Employers are required to submit information about foreign workers to the assessment point by the 5th and 20th of each month.

Assessments for foreign workers' language proficiency will take place on the 15th and the last day of each month at designated examination centres. While the exact locations of these centres are not provided in the available search results, they will be designated by the Ministry of Education.

The Ministry of Education will also be responsible for creating the test questions. The assessments will be a written test lasting 30 minutes, and a score of 50% or more is considered passing. The cost of the assessment will be posted on the websites of the assessment points.

It is important to note that the assessments will only take place if there is a request from the employer based on a contract for paid services between the assessment point and the foreign worker.

The decree also approves the Regulations on the procedure for assessing the knowledge of one of the state languages of the Republic of Belarus by foreign workers. These regulations aim to ensure fair and consistent assessments for all foreign workers.

This new decree is part of the ongoing efforts by the Belarusian government to promote language proficiency and integrate foreign workers into the local workforce more effectively.
