In a surprising turn of events in Kolkata on Tuesday, an Indian Army truck came dangerously close to colliding with city police commissioner Manoj Verma's car. The incident, which was captured on CCTV footage, occurred near the Writer's Building in BBD Bagh.

According to the Kolkata Police, the Army truck was coming from Fort William, the Eastern Command headquarters, and was attempting to turn right from the far left of the road at the crossing to enter Old Court House Street. The Army personnel in the truck claimed that they slowed down to turn right when Commissioner Verma's car passed by from the right.

The Kolkata Police have initiated a case against the Army truck driver for rash driving. An FIR was lodged at the Hare Street police station under section 281 (rash driving) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita and the Motor Vehicles Act. The Police emphasised that this was a case of violation of traffic rules.

Commissioner Verma was traveling to his office, Lalbazaar, the Kolkata Police headquarters, at the time of the incident. The Police stated that the other vehicle (Commissioner Verma's car) narrowly escaped a collision due to the alertness of its driver.

The Army's soldiers had dismantled Commissioner Verma's party's agitation venue in the city for its existence beyond permission the previous day. This incident happened a day after West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee accused the Centre of misusing the Army.

However, the Army personnel in the truck stated that the truck, bound for the passport office, narrowly avoided a collision with Commissioner Verma's car. The Army truck took a wrong turn on the road near the Writer's Building.

The Kolkata Police advised the public not to be misled by unverified claims and to rely on official sources for updates. They clarified that a lot of misinformation was being circulated about the incident. The name of the driver of the Indian Army truck reported for reckless driving in Kolkata on Wednesday has not been publicly disclosed.

The Kolkata Police confirmed that the Army truck was being driven in a dangerous manner, violating traffic lanes. The Army truck was coming from Fort William, the Eastern Command headquarters, and was bound for the passport office. The incident occurred at around 11 am on Tuesday.
