Millions of individuals globally will observe a scarcely observable lunar eclipse tonight.
Longest Lunar Eclipse in Years Set to Grace Skies Over UAE and Saudi Arabia
Get ready for a celestial spectacle as the longest lunar eclipse in recent years is expected to take place tonight. This astronomical event will be visible worldwide, including in the UAE and Saudi Arabia.
The partial eclipse will begin at 7.27pm Riyadh time, and the moon will gradually move into Earth's shadow, culminating in a total lunar eclipse at 8.30pm. The total spectacle of the lunar eclipse will last for three hours and 29 minutes.
Astronomers explain that a lunar eclipse occurs when the moon passes through Earth's shadow, which is 221 times the planet's diameter. The duration of complete lunar shadow will be one hour and 22 minutes.
The peak of the eclipse is forecast for 9.11pm, and the total lunar eclipse will reach its fullest at this time. Afterward, the eclipse will gradually fade, ending at 10.56pm.
In a unique synchronization for Muslims, the special eclipse prayer will be performed worldwide simultaneously during the lunar eclipse. It's worth noting that no eclipse prayer has been held in the UAE for 7 years, but one is planned for Sunday across the country.
While Riyadh will not witness a total solar eclipse until December 2755, cities such as Jeddah, Mecca, and Abha in Saudi Arabia are expected to be treated to a total solar eclipse on August 2, 2027. This prediction was made by NASA.
A former professor of climatology at Qassim University, Abdullah Al Misnad, has provided these timings. Al Misnad highlights the precision of astronomical calculations as evidence of the marvels of divine creation.
Interestingly, no other lunar or solar eclipse will be visible in Saudi skies until July 6, 2028. So, don't miss this rare opportunity to witness the longest lunar eclipse in recent years. Gather your family and friends and head outside to marvel at this celestial event.
