mind-twisting, pulse-pounding adventure: The Prodigy
In the realm of horror cinema, two names have recently emerged as forces to be reckoned with - Jeff Buhler and Nicholas McCarthy. Buhler, a horror scribe known for his gripping scripts, has penned the screenplay for "The Prodigy," while McCarthy, a director with a penchant for chilling storytelling, helms the project.
Buhler, who became a cult favourite with his 2008 adaptation of Clive Barker's short story The Midnight Meat Train, also serves as an executive producer for "The Prodigy." His upcoming projects include re-imaginings of Jacob's Ladder and the Pet Sematary reboot.
Meanwhile, McCarthy, who co-founded the Alpha 60 Film Collective in Echo Park, Los Angeles, has directed "The Prodigy," marking his third feature film. His love for horror was born when he watched "The Exorcist" for the first time, and this classic influenced his approach to Buhler's script for "The Prodigy."
The film tells the story of Sarah, played by Taylor Schilling, and her young son Miles, who exhibits disturbing behaviour. As Sarah begins to suspect an evil, possibly supernatural force has overtaken her son, she must investigate the cause of Miles' violent actions. The third act requires a rare fortitude from its lead actor.
"The Prodigy" takes the audience on a wild ride, where the line between perception and reality becomes blurry. Horrorbuzz praised the film, stating it was "one of the most bonkers and disturbing horror stories we've seen in years." Indiewire called it a "mini-masterclass in tension."
Producer Tripp Vinson, known for his passion for horror films, oversees the production of "The Prodigy," which is a natural extension of his work in the genre. The core appeal of the film lies in the underlying and mysterious connection between Sarah and Miles.
Nick, who premiered his film Easter at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2016, as part of the anthology horror film Holidays, has shown a knack for crafting unsettling narratives. "Easter" was lauded as "a mini-masterclass in tension."
The film "Grudge," originally "Ju-On," was directed by Takashi Shimizu, the creator of the original Japanese horror film. Buhler is also set to direct the remake of "Grudge," which is slated for release later in 2019.
With "The Prodigy," Buhler and McCarthy have delivered a chilling and thought-provoking horror film that is sure to leave audiences on the edge of their seats.
