Minimalist Stone Contains Two Candle Types from QUB's Candlestick Design

Varied candle ambiance enhanced through suitable candlesticks can often prove elusive, yet Ross Sorokovyi's QUB design elegantly addresses this issue with its minimalistic cube geometry measuring 60mm. The QUB, in essence, is a pure stone cube, but its unique adaptability lies in its simplicity.

In the world of design, creativity often lies in reimagining everyday objects, and that's exactly what Ross Sorokovyi, designer at Mudu Studio based in the Netherlands, has done with his concept design, the QUB candlesticks.

The QUB candlesticks are not your average candle holders. Carved from natural stone, each piece showcases a unique character, with variations in marble and granite featuring deep green veining and soft gray patterns. No two QUB candlesticks look exactly alike, celebrating the natural stone's unique character.

These 60mm stone cubes come with two different-sized holes for holding standard taper candles and tealights. The design allows for orienting the cube in different ways, adjusting the candle type based on desired mood. Taper candles offer dramatic height, while tealights create a cozy reading ambiance.

The modularity of QUB candlesticks allows for creating "little landscapes of light and shadow". They can be arranged in grids, aligned for rhythm, or mixed with different stone colours for contrast. The compact size of the QUB candlesticks also means they can be rearranged easily as space or mood changes.

The QUB design is simple and functional, adapting to various candle types and moods. The ribbed quarter-cylinder cut into each cube's base adds visual lightness and a modular quality, allowing for nesting or stacking in various patterns. The surface treatment includes smooth polished areas and ribbed, chiseled sections for visual texture.

Despite being a concept design, the QUB candlesticks have a substantial weight, making them feel permanent and valuable. However, questions about heat resistance, cleaning, and real-world durability haven't been tested yet.

For those who appreciate form and function working together seamlessly, QUB offers a compelling vision of what everyday objects could become with creative thinking. By reimagining something as basic as a candle holder as a sculptural and architectural piece, QUB proves that even simple objects can benefit from thoughtful reconsideration.

However, the sharp edges of QUB candlesticks might be less forgiving than traditional candlesticks in dim light. This is something to consider when placing them in living spaces.

In conclusion, the QUB candlesticks are a testament to the power of design thinking, transforming a simple object into a piece of art that can illuminate both your space and your spirit.
