Minister Razavi and State Secretary Lindlohr pay tribute during a commemorative journey
Baden-Württemberg Unveils 2025 Heritage Tour: A Journey Through Living History
The picturesque region of Baden-Württemberg is set to showcase its diverse cultural landscape with the annual heritage tour, scheduled for September 8-14. This year's tour, organised by the Ministry of Spatial Development and Housing, promises a unique blend of centuries-old monuments and relatively young landmarks.
State Secretary Andrea Lindlohr will kick off the tour on September 8 and 9, visiting several notable locations including Hausen am Tann, Altheim-Heiligkreuztal, Tübingen, Eberdingen, Großsachsenheim, and Stuttgart. Minister Nicole Razavi, the highest heritage protection authority in the state, will join the tour on September 10 and 11, visiting Mannheim, Seckach-Großeicholzheim, Konstanz, Donaueschingen, and Villingen-Schwenningen.
Minister Razavi, in a recent statement, emphasised the significance of heritage sites, stating, "Heritage sites are more than old walls; they are living history, visible memories, and part of our identity."
One of the highlights of the tour will be the unveiling of a digital heritage map in Mannheim by Minister Razavi. This digital map, a joint effort by the State Office for Heritage Preservation and the State Office for Geoinformation and Regional Development, contains data on approximately 90,000 built and artistic heritage sites and around 30,000 archaeological cultural heritage sites. The map will be accessible to the public via the Geoportal Baden-Württemberg.
The tour will feature both time-honoured monuments like the Cistercian Nunnery in Heiligkreuztal and the Roman castle in Konstanz, as well as relatively young landmarks such as the MPS Studio in Villingen-Schwenningen, the Ernst Klett publishing building in Stuttgart, and the Schafbrühl Settlement in Tübingen.
The Night of Open Heritage, taking place in Mannheim on September 13, will serve as a prelude to the Day of Open Heritage 2025, which falls under the theme "WERT-voll: priceless or irreplaceable?". The statewide opening of the Day of Open Heritage will also take place in Mannheim.
Mayor Christian Specht of the City of Mannheim will collaborate with Minister Razavi and Prof. Dr. Claus Wolf, President of the LAD, to open the Night of Open Heritage in Mannheim at the Stadthaus N1. Specht, who has served as mayor since August 4, 2023, will also preside over the Day of Open Heritage event in Mannheim.
State Secretary Lindlohr views heritage preservation as "cultural work that preserves what binds society." Minister Razavi, on the other hand, considers the heritage tour a personal highlight and a source of inspiration.
The heritage tour promises to be an enlightening journey through Baden-Württemberg's rich history and cultural heritage, offering visitors a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in the region's living history.
