Two fire stations in the Bautzen district have been targeted by burglars, resulting in significant losses and potential risks for the safety of the community.

On September 2025, at 15:30 Uhr, an unknown group burglarized the equipment house of the Salzenforst volunteer fire department near Bautzen. The stolen goods, valued around 20,000 euros, included a battery-powered cutter and a spreader, essential equipment for rescuing trapped individuals. The police are currently investigating this incident, and no suspects have been identified.

A similar break-in occurred at the Lichtenberg fire station, though the exact timings are not provided. The stolen equipment, worth approximately 20,000 euros, was also a battery-powered cutter and a spreader. The criminal police have taken over the investigation, as the property damage from both burglaries amounts to a total of 30,000 euros (25,000 euros from Salzenforst and 5,000 euros from Lichtenberg).

The connection between the two burglaries is their occurrence in the same region. This is not the first time a fire station in the Bautzen district has been the target of such incidents. On 14th November 2024, there was a previous incident of chaos at a fire station in the district.

Paul Stübner, spokesperson for the Bautzen fire department, stated that without the stolen equipment, trapped persons could not be rescued. The stolen equipment is critical for the fire department, as it is located directly on the A4 and often responds first to serious accidents.

The identity of the person or organization responsible for the Lichtenberg burglary is unknown. The police are investigating possible connections to other incidents involving theft of rescue equipment from fire stations in the Bautzen district, but no suspects or groups have been identified publicly.
