Misidentified video depicting Chennai airport flooding in 2023 is falsely linked to August 2025 Jammu & Kashmir floods incident.

In recent days, a viral video has been circulating on social media, allegedly showing heavy rainfall in Jammu and Kashmir in August 2025. However, a closer look reveals that the video is not related to the heavy rains in August 2025 in Jammu and Kashmir.

The video, in fact, shows flooding at Chennai Airport. A reverse image search of the keyframes from the viral video led to earlier uploads dated 04 December 2023. This was when Cyclone Michaung caused flooding at Chennai Airport.

Despite the misleading claims, there are no reports of Jammu Airport being flooded in August 2025. The airport did face disruptions due to heavy rainfall, as it was closed from the afternoon of 26 August 2025 until the afternoon of 27 August 2025. Several news outlets reported that the video was from Chennai Airport, not Jammu and Kashmir.

It is important to verify information before sharing it, especially when it comes to natural disasters and their impact on infrastructure. Misleading information can cause unnecessary panic and confusion. Always double-check sources and rely on reliable news outlets for accurate information.
