Misinformation about Indian Railways: A single wagon, not the entire train, allegedly caused a delay of more than three years.
Headline: Clarification on Misleading Claim About Delayed Fertiliser Train on Indian Railways
In recent times, several prominent outlets, including The Economic Times, have reported a claim that a fertiliser goods train from Visakhapatnam to Basti took more than three years to reach its destination. However, it is essential to clarify that this claim is misleading.
The wagon with number 107462, carrying fertilisers, was loaded by Indian Potash Limited on behalf of M/S Ramachandra Gupta in 2014. The train's normal journey from Visakhapatnam to Basti takes approximately 42 hours and 13 minutes. However, in this particular instance, the wagon became unfit for running on the track, leading to its detachment from the train.
North Eastern Railways CPRO Sanjay Yadav confirmed that the wagon was detached from the train, and the Press Information Bureau of the Government of India has also clarified that the stories about a goods train being delayed by more than three years are misleading.
The viral post on social media and several reports about a goods train being delayed by more than three years are misleading. It is crucial to note that only one wagon carrying fertilisers was affected, and the delay did not affect the entire train.
Ramachandra Gupta, the businessman from Basti, Uttar Pradesh, who booked the journey, lodged a complaint with the Railways when the wagon did not arrive even after several months. The wagon, carrying 1,316 bags of Di-Ammonium Phosphate (DAP) fertilisers, eventually reached Basti railway station in July 2018.
It is essential to clarify that no goods train on Indian Railways has ever taken this long to reach its destination. The delay was not a common occurrence on Indian Railways, making the viral post on social media and several reports about a goods train being delayed by more than three years misleading.
The wagon was later sent to a yard for repairs, and the Railways have taken steps to ensure such incidents do not occur in the future. The Railways remain committed to providing efficient and timely services to all its customers.
