Hamburg Introduces HVV Switch: A Comprehensive Mobility Platform
Hamburg, Germany, is taking a significant step towards a more sustainable and digitally-integrated mobility future with the introduction of HVV Switch. The app, previously known as Switchh, was unveiled by Hochbahn AG and Hamburger Verkehrsverbund on 29 June 2020.
The initial integration of HVV Switch includes HVV offers and the on-demand shuttle service Moia. Car-sharing provider Sixt Share is set to follow the integration by the end of 2020, with further integrations such as StadtRad and other car-sharing providers planned for 2021.
Mobility Senator Anjes Tjarks emphasized that the app is the digital heart of the Hamburg-Takt, a key component of the city's long-term mobility strategy. The long-term goal of HVV Switch is to make traffic more climate-friendly, sustainable, and city-friendly through digital solutions.
MOIA CEO Robert Henrich stated that the company's involvement in the app is a logical step towards a comprehensive and digitally available mobility offer within Hamburg. He explained that this integration will allow users to find, book, and pay for different transport services—including public transport, rental cars, e-scooters, and taxis—seamlessly in one app.
For the use of car-sharing offers in the HVV Switch app, a one-time driver's license validation via video call will be required. This measure is intended to ensure safety and compliance with regulations.
The integration of Google Maps is also planned for the end of 2020, further enhancing the app's functionality and user experience.
The ITS World Congress in Hamburg, scheduled for October 2021, will feature topics around drones and smart mobility, providing an opportunity for further discussion and collaboration in this exciting field.
