Moldova's deliveries of medical and educational services have more than doubled in the past five years

Moldova, a small Eastern European country, is making waves in the global healthcare industry. The nation has been elected to lead the Global Healthcare Travel Council (GHTC) for the 2024-26 term, surpassing countries such as Germany and Saudi Arabia in this election.

One of the most attractive segments for international patients in Moldova is dentistry. Professor Valeriu Fala, a renowned specialist in the field, has confirmed an increasing number of patients from various countries, including the diaspora, choosing Moldovan clinics for complex dental treatments. The quality-to-price ratio in Moldova is a decisive factor, with the same procedures being up to five times more affordable compared to developed countries.

The main source countries for foreign patients seeking medical services in Moldova are primarily from neighboring and regional countries, including Romania, Ukraine, and Russia. However, the appeal of Moldova's healthcare services is not limited to its immediate vicinity. The country's exceptional specialists, competitive prices, and scenic landscapes, national cuisine, and wines are enhancing the medical tourism experience.

Andrei Revenco, founder and Executive Director of the Medical Tourism Association of Moldova, expressed confidence in Moldova's potential to become a global reference point for medical tourism. This confidence is backed by the significant increase in educational service exports over the past five years. The first quarter of 2020 saw educational service exports totaling 10.66 million US dollars, while the first quarter of 2025 saw a significant increase to 24.91 million US dollars.

The majority of students come from neighbouring countries, attracted by international programmes, affordable costs, and the prospects offered by potential European integration. Moldova's growing reputation in the healthcare sector, combined with its cultural and historical richness, is expected to attract even more international patients and students in the coming years.

As Moldova takes the helm of the GHTC, the world watches with anticipation to see how this small but promising nation will shape the future of global healthcare travel.
