In the heart of North Rhine-Westphalia, the city of Mönchengladbach has announced the winners of the Heimatpreis 2025. This prestigious prize, part of the state funding programme "Heimat. Zukunft. Nordrhein-Westfalen.", is a testament to the city's commitment to recognising and supporting initiatives that unite its people.

This year, the Heimatpreis has been awarded to the Suumpfperlen e.V., a non-profit association dedicated to supporting cancer patients. The association, which meets monthly at the parish hall of St. Rochus Broich-Peel, aims to raise awareness about cancer, give a voice to those affected, and encourage preventive measures.

The Suumpfperlen e.V. was chosen from eleven applicants for the Heimatpreis, a contest organised by the City of Mönchengladbach. The jury, consisting of Mayor Felix Heinrichs, Frank Eibenberger (CDU), Tim Theuerzeit (SPD), Marcel Klotz (Alliance 90/The Greens), Natascha Stephan (FDP), Torben Schultz (The Left), and Corina Bülow (Bündnis Deutschland), made the decision following the City Council's vote.

The Heimatpreis 2025 distributes prizes to multiple winners. Alongside the Suumpfperlen e.V., the Turnverein Beckrath e.V. won the 2nd prize worth 4,000 euros, and the Jugendrotkreuz of the DRK Kreisverband Mönchengladbach received the 3rd prize worth 3,000 euros.

The Heimat-Preis award ceremony will take place on August 25th during the City of Mönchengladbach's Volunteer Evening. The event is open to all, with no membership required to participate in the Suumpfperlen e.V. meetings. Companions are welcome at these gatherings, making them an inclusive space for all.

The Heimatpreis is given to support what unites people. By recognising and celebrating the efforts of organisations like the Suumpfperlen e.V., the City of Mönchengladbach continues to foster a sense of community and encourages its citizens to come together for the betterment of all.
