In the closing session of the 21st edition of the PSD's Summer University, Paulo Raimundo, the political leader of the Portuguese Communist Party (PCP), criticized the intervention of Prime Minister Luís Montenegro in the State Budget discussions.

Raimundo expressed his disapproval of Montenegro's failure to explain why a military building in Évora, ready to be adapted to serve students, has stopped being used. He also pointed out the delay in the construction of the former Ministry of Education building in Lisbon, which could have provided hundreds of beds for students.

The PCP leader recalled Montenegro's appeals to youth and concern for youth, but accused him of wanting to change the labor package to intensify precariousness, to tighten wages, to further flexibilize working hours and time, and to make it easier to fire.

Raimundo also criticized Montenegro's policies for their negative impact on the National Health Service, living costs, and housing needs. He suggested that if the Prime Minister was truly concerned about housing issues, he could have announced immediate measures such as the suspension of rent increases planned for January of the next year.

Montenegro, in his intervention at the PSD Summer University, described the State Budget as an instrument of his own policy and a means to continue, accelerate, and accentuate the policy of the current Government. He claimed that his policies would address housing needs, but Raimundo countered that these policies actually favor real estate funds and banks.

Raimundo predicted that no one will be fooled during the meetings next week with the parties to discuss the State Budget. He warned that the Government can expect firm combat from the PCP, both within the forces they currently have and those they will create in the future.

In statements to the Lusa agency, Raimundo described the intervention of the current Government as "promises, illusions, and out of touch with the difficulties" of the population. He maintained that the State Budget is a disastrous adventure and a disastrous policy for the country and for the life of each individual.

The State Budget discussions are expected to involve meetings with various parties in the coming week. The PCP's stance on these discussions is one of firm combat and the creation of new forces if necessary.
