Movie Festivities Cologne is scheduled to take place in Hamburg starting from 2026.

Hamburg is set to become a hub for the film and cinema industry, with several major events set to take place in the city.

The most exciting development is the arrival of a musical adaptation of "Back to the Future". This highly anticipated event is expected to attract over 1,000 visitors annually, thanks to Hamburg's ideal conditions for such events. The city's strong film and media industry, coupled with its robust infrastructure, make it an ideal location for this high-profile production.

The move to Hamburg also marks a strategic cooperation that will create a central meeting point for cinema, film distribution, technology, agencies, service providers, marketing, and visions. This convergence is a testament to Hamburg's growing importance in the film industry.

Helge Albers, the Managing Director of MOIN Filmförderung Hamburg Schleswig-Holstein since April 2019, is a seasoned film producer with nearly 25 years of experience. He has been involved in successful international films and film organizations and supports both established filmmakers and emerging talent in northern Germany's film industry.

The Film Festival in Hamburg is also undergoing significant changes. This year, it will expand to include the European Work in Progress and the International Film Distribution Summit, transforming it into the "Industry Days". A new director has been appointed for this revamped event, marking a new chapter for film and the cinema industry in Hamburg.

The Cologne Film Days, another major event, will also be moving to Hamburg. In 2026, the Cologne Film Days will take place in the city for the first time, integrating into the Film Theater Congress "Kino" of the HDF. The "Kino" Congress is also moving to Hamburg, with the new venue for the Cologne Film Days being the area around the Cinemaxx at Dammtor and the Congress Center Hamburg (CCH).

The merger of the Film Days and the Kino-Kongress is not the only expansion of major industry events in Hamburg. The Cologne Film Days, which are planned to be renamed, will undergo a significant transformation as part of this move.
