Multiple Russian drones patrol Ukrainian skies
In a shocking turn of events, the Ukrainian capital Kyiv was attacked overnight by Russian forces, marking the first reported attack on the city since the beginning of 2023.
According to regional military administrator Ivan Fedorov, the Russian military launched the attack using over a hundred combat drones and missiles. The attack resulted in at least 25 deaths in Kyiv, as per the latest official figures, making it the deadliest attack in the city since the start of the war.
Explosions were heard in multiple cities, including Kyiv, Cherkasy, and Chernihiv. The attack on Kyiv also caused significant damage to an industrial building in Zaporizhzhia, setting it on fire. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported in Zaporizhzhia as of the attack.
The cause of the explosions in Kyiv is uncertain, with possibilities including air defense and impacts. The Ukrainian air defense has engaged in some instances during the attack, suggesting an attempt to counter the Russian offensive.
Six strategic bombers reportedly took off from Russian airports, potentially to attack Ukraine with missiles. Russian combat aircraft may have also launched air strikes on Ukraine, according to Ukrainian media.
This attack is one of the heaviest in three and a half years of war, highlighting the ongoing tension and violence in the region. The Ukrainian government has been urging for international support and condemnation of the Russian aggression.
The world watches with bated breath, hoping for a swift resolution to the conflict and a return to peace for the people of Ukraine.
