Giorgio Armani, Fashion Legend, Passes Away at 91

Italian fashion icon Giorgio Armani passed away on Thursday at the age of 91. The news has sent shockwaves through the fashion world and beyond, as the designer leaves behind a legacy that spans five decades.

Armani's health had been declining for several months, causing him to cancel his appearances at his shows in June and July. Despite announcing a comeback for this month, it never materialized.

Over 6,000 people paid their respects to Armani's coffin, which was brought to the Teatro Armani in Milan in a hearse on Friday morning. The room where the coffin is placed is dimly lit, illuminated by hundreds of paper lanterns. A bouquet of white roses lies on the coffin, a symbol of the elegance and sophistication that Armani is known for.

Armani founded Giorgio Armani SpA with his partner Sergio Galeotti in the mid-70s, and after Galeotti's early death in 1985, Armani became the sole owner of the company. The line of mourners stretched far out onto the street, a testament to the impact Armani had on the fashion industry and the world at large.

Among the mourners was Donatella Versace, another icon of the fashion world. A large screen displays a quote from Armani in Italian at the Teatro Armani: "The legacy I wish to leave is one of commitment, respect, and attention to people and reality. That's where it all begins."

The future of Giorgio Armani SpA is yet to be determined, but Italian media reports indicate that Armani's will is set to be opened within 14 days after the burial. The Armani Group announced the planning of an exhibition to honor the life’s work of Giorgio Armani, which will open later this month at the Pinacoteca di Brera museum in Milan on September 24, 2025.

Armani spent his final days in one of his villas in Saint-Tropez, on the French Riviera. The fashion legend lived on one of Milan's most elegant streets, leaving behind a city that will remember him forever.

The funeral for Giorgio Armani will be held on Monday in a private ceremony. The world will continue to mourn the loss of a true fashion legend, but Armani's legacy will live on in the countless lives he touched and the fashion empire he built.
