Multitudes say goodbye to Armani

Giorgio Armani, the iconic Italian fashion designer, passed away at the age of 91 on Thursday. His coffin has been resting at the Teatro Armani until Sunday evening, a venue where he had personally presented many of his major fashion shows.

Armani founded Giorgio Armani SpA with his partner Sergio Galeotti in the mid-70s, marking the seed of a company now worth many billions. After Galeotti's early death in 1985, Armani owned the company alone.

The designer lived in one of the most elegant streets of Milan, Italy, and this summer, he was absent from his fashion shows for health reasons, residing in one of his villas in Saint-Tropez, France.

More than 6,000 people paid their respects at the Armani headquarters in Milan. The line of mourners stretched out onto the street, with Donatella Versace among those who came to bid farewell to the legendary designer.

An Italian message reads in a large screen beside a large photo of Armani: "The legacy I wish to leave is one of commitment, respect, and attention to people and reality. That's where it all begins." A bouquet of white roses lies on the coffin of Giorgio Armani.

The funeral will take place on Monday in a private ceremony. It is not yet known what will happen to Armani's company, but reports suggest plans for succession.

An exhibition dedicated to Armani's life's work is set to open in Milan later this month. The room where Giorgio Armani's coffin is placed is dimly lit, illuminated by hundreds of paper lanterns.

The will of Giorgio Armani is not specified to be publicly disclosed after the burial; the burial was held privately with only family and friends present in Rivalta, and no exact date for the will’s disclosure after the funeral has been announced. Armani reportedly mentioned preferred buyers for a minority stake in his company in his will, including LVMH, EssilorLuxottica, and L'Oreal, but details remain private.

Italian media reports indicate that Giorgio Armani's will is to be opened within 14 days after the burial. The legacy of Giorgio Armani, a trailblazer in the fashion industry, will undoubtedly continue to inspire for years to come.
