In a significant turn of events, Alex Mumbru will be back on the bench for Germany's upcoming competitive game during the World Cup qualifiers. Mumbru, who had to step down as national coach due to a stomach illness before the EuroBasket, will assist from the sidelines as the team faces Slovenia in the quarter-final.

Mumbru's return to the German basketball team comes after a successful stint by interim head coach Alan Ibrahimagic, who led the team during the preliminary round in Tampere, Finland. Ibrahimagic, who has been serving as the head coach for Germany's youth national teams since 2013, took over the A-national team as an assistant coach long before being appointed as the interim head coach for the European Championship.

During his brief tenure, Ibrahimagic guided the team to five consecutive wins in the preliminary round. One of these victories was against Portugal in the round of 16, a game where Mumbru shared coaching duties with Ibrahimagic. Despite some initial adjustment difficulties during preparation, the team has been successfully implementing Mumbru's ideas at the EuroBasket.

The team's captain, Dennis Schröder, dedicated the win against Portugal to Mumbru, praising his warrior mentality. Maodo Lo, another team member, stated that the team has been honoring Mumbru's philosophy and system at the EuroBasket.

Mumbru's return to the sideline was not without challenges. He was hospitalized in Tampere due to an acute abdomen before the EuroBasket started. Upon his return, Mumbru was not fully fit and had lost some weight due to his hospitalization. However, Mumbru adapted the playing style of the world champion team during the summer, focusing on faster and more aggressive play, which the team has been implementing effectively.

The game against Slovenia, featuring NBA superstar Luka Doncic, will be broadcast on RTL and MagentaSport at 8:00 PM. With Mumbru's guidance from the bench, the German team will aim to continue their successful run in the World Cup qualifiers.

Despite some unrest due to Mumbru's dual role on the coaching bench, the team was happy about his return. The next competitive game for the team will be a crucial test of their resilience and adaptability under Mumbru's guidance.
