Munich's S-Bahn Main Line 2 Construction Impact: September Adjustments Result in Tram Line Redirection for MVG Users
In the heart of Munich, commuters will experience some changes in their travel routines as tram lines are being rerouted due to a bomb disposal investigation and construction work for the 2nd S-Bahn Stammstrecke.
The Munich Fire Department, Deutsche Bahn (DB), and specialized bomb disposal units, in addition to the Munich Public Transport Company (MVG), are involved in the investigation near the Haidenau underpass. The MVG has reported the tram line rerouting, aiming to ensure the safety of passengers and maintain the city's transport services.
Tram lines 21 and N19 will be temporarily rerouted via additional stops: Haidenauplatz, Grillparzerstraße, Einsteinstraße (Leuchtenbergring), Vogelweideplatz, and Riedenburger Straße to Berg am Laim (station). During the night-time restriction periods, which typically last from 23:00 to 04:00, replacement bus lines 21 and N21 will run between Ostbahnhof and St.-Veit-Straße.
At Ostbahnhof, the end stop for replacement bus lines is at halt 11 of line 100, and the boarding stop is at halt 3 in Orleansstraße. At St.-Veit-Straße, the replacement bus lines will turn at the stop for night line N79. For those using bus line 187, the stops at Baumkirchner Straße will be served.
At Haidenauplatz, the tram stop will be served in both directions, and at Ampfingstraße, Schlüsselfeldstraße, Mutschellestraße, and Kreillerstraße, the replacement stop is moved to the side of the road in both directions. At St.-Veit-Straße, commuters should note that the replacement bus lines will not serve the usual stops. Instead, they will turn at the stop for night line N79.
The restrictions do not apply during the day and will be in place on the nights of Sunday/Monday, 7/8 September to Thursday/Friday, 11/12 September, and Sunday/Monday, 14/15 September to Thursday/Friday, 18/19 September. The MVG encourages passengers to plan their journeys accordingly and allow extra time for travel during these periods.
These changes are part of the extensive work for the 2nd S-Bahn Stammstrecke in Munich, which is scheduled to be completed in September. The MVG apologises for any inconvenience caused and thanks passengers for their understanding and cooperation.
