John Mayer to Dazzle at Desert's Rise Festival, While The Sex Pistols Reunite without Original SingerThe 11th Rise Festival sets the desert ablaze with sounds, not just lights

Originating as a mesmerizing display of biodegradable lanterns into the Nevadan night sky, the Rise Festival has morphed into a three-day musical extravaganza. The annual event made a significant leap last year with the acquisition by the NobleLight Foundation, leading to its metamorphosis into a full-blown concert series.

Taking place at the Mojave Desert's Jean Dry Lake Bed, 40 miles south of Sin City, from October 3-5, the festival promises a star-studded lineup. Headliners Rüfüs du Sol, Calvin Harris, and guitar maestro John Mayer will lead the charge, accompanied by a roster of eclectic artists spanning electronic, indie, folk, and experimental genres [1]. The press release describes them as some unknownbuttalent, ready to delight a crowd stretching beyond the festival's demographic [2].

Tickets and packages will be available starting May 16 via the festival's official website [3].

The Pistols' Punk Reunion: A Sour Note?

British punk pioneers The Sex Pistols are marking their 50th anniversary with a tour, wrapping up their North American stint at the Palms' Pearl on October 17. The tour promises a complete performance of their iconic album "Never Mind the Bollocks"[4]. With the notable exception of original frontman Johnny Rotten (John Lydon), the band will be rocking the stage without the creative force that drove their initial success[5].

Neither happy nor resigned, Lydon characterized the move as "almost malicious in its intent" and dismissed it as "karaoke with mediocre results" in an interview with the UK's NME [6].

Rotten's disdain for his former bandmates follows his unsuccessful legal efforts to block the use of The Sex Pistols' music in the FX series "Pistol" in 2021 [7].

The Pearl performance will mark the first US dates for the band since 2008, when the lineup included Rotten, rocking the stage at the old Hard Rock Hotel's The Joint [8]. Tickets go on sale May 16 on SexPistolsFeaturingFrankCarter.com [9].
