Portugal's roller hockey team has once again claimed the title of European champions, defeating France 4-1 in the final of the 56th edition of the tournament. The victory, which occurred on Saturday, marks the 22nd time that Portugal has won the European roller hockey championship, cementing their status as the record holders.

The team's journey to the final was not an easy one. They started the tournament with defeats in the first phase's three games but managed to turn things around and advance to the semifinals. In the semifinals, Portugal conquered the tournament by defeating Spain in a tense 3-2 victory in penalties, dethroning the three-time champion.

The President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, congratulated the team on their triumphant performance. In a salute that was in the name of Portugal and all Portuguese, he noted the team's heroic and brilliant performance throughout the tournament. The final match saw Rafael Bessa, Alvarinho, and Gonçalo Alves score for Portugal, with the latter scoring a penalty kick. Spain finished fourth in the tournament, losing 3-1 to Italy. With this victory, Portugal has reclaimed the European Championship title they last won in 2016.
