Nawrocki commends the inclusion of two Polish minority ministers in Lithuania's latest government lineup, regarding it as a positive development.
In a significant development, it is highly likely that Lithuania's upcoming government will include two ministers representing the Polish minority in the country. This news has been welcomed by Polish President Karol Nawrocki, who praised the expected inclusion as a good sign for Warsaw.
The announcement comes as Prime Minister designate Inga Ruginiene prepares to submit her Cabinet lineup by the end of the week. The two ministers, whose positions have not yet been specified, are loyal citizens of Lithuania, as stated by President Nawrocki.
President Nawrocki's praise follows a meeting with Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda in Vilnius on Monday. President Nauseda has announced his intention to appoint five candidates who previously held positions in the Gintautas Paluckas-led government to the new Cabinet. These candidates include Foreign Minister Kestutis Budrys, Defense Minister Dovile Sakaliene, Education Minister Raminta Popoviene, Health Minister Marija Jakubauskiene, and the current Interior Minister.
However, the appointment of Rita Tamasuniene as justice minister is conditional on no negative information from the special services. It is unclear at this time which politician from the Electoral Action of Poles in Lithuania-Christian Families Alliance (EAPL-CFA) will be proposed and appointed by President Nauseda as Justice Minister in Lithuania's new cabinet.
In addition to the Cabinet lineup, President Nauseda is also expected to submit the government program. He has expressed his confidence in acting Interior Minister Vladislav Kondratovic, who is likely to retain his position in the new government.
The inclusion of ministers from the Polish minority is a significant step towards fostering greater diversity and inclusivity in Lithuania's government. The two ministers, if appointed, will join two ministerial positions, for the environment and energy, which have not yet been presented to the head of state, to be nominated by the Nemunas Dawn party.
As the deadline for the submission of the Cabinet lineup approaches, the focus remains on the composition of the new government and its potential impact on Lithuania's political landscape.
