New attraction near the Baltic Sea: Adventure center based on the "Lucky Bird" commences operation for vacationers

After nearly 30 years, the Kranichzentrum in Groß Mohrdorf has become too small and outdated. On September 6, 2025, the new Nabu experience center "Kranichwelten" will open its doors in Günz, near Stralsund, offering a fresh and immersive exploration of the relationship between humans and cranes.

The 500 square meters indoor center, combined with a 1.7-hectare outdoor area, is dedicated to the world of cranes, offering interactive exhibitions for visitors of all ages. The center aims to attract both locals and tourists, catering to their needs with a bistro, children's corner, and a large outdoor area.

At the heart of the center is an exhibition that delves into the historical significance of cranes in stories and symbols. Visitors can immerse themselves in the biology of native gray cranes and the impressive feats of black-necked cranes, such as crossing the Himalayas. An interactive world map of crane breeding and wintering grounds is also included, allowing visitors to track crane flight routes and listen to their calls in a "sound shower".

Dr. Günter Nowald, the director of the center, leads a team of ten researchers, supported by volunteers and 30 honorary rangers, working tirelessly to ensure the protection of these majestic birds. A highlight of the new center is the use of virtual reality glasses, providing a new perspective on cranes and even offering a view into the eyes of these magnificent creatures.

The "Kranichwelten" is located just 300 meters away from the barrier-free observation station "Kranorama", established in Günz in 2015. This strategic placement allows visitors to enjoy a seamless experience, from learning about cranes in the center to observing them in their natural habitat.

Approximately six million euros were invested in this project, reflecting the commitment to preserving and celebrating these iconic birds. The new Nabu experience center "Kranichwelten" promises to be a must-visit destination for anyone interested in nature, conservation, and the fascinating world of cranes.
