New footage emerges of the anticipated 2026 Range Rover Velar successor
Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) is making strides in the electric vehicle market with the testing of a new prototype, which could be a successor to the Range Rover Velar. The vehicle, set to launch in 2025, is expected to be a mid-size electric Range Rover built on the Electric Modular Architecture (EMA) platform.
The EMA platform, set to debut its first model in 2025, will also be used for next-generation versions of the Range Rover Evoque and related Discovery Sport. The design of the electric SUV will feature aerodynamic improvements for enhanced efficiency.
The prototype, currently undergoing testing, appears to be longer, lower, and wider than the current Range Rover Velar, suggesting a departure from the existing model. However, it's important to note that the electric vehicle is not the anticipated electric version of the iconic Range Rover.
JLR is also developing a separate platform, the MLA, for larger SUVs. The MLA made its debut in the latest Range Rover and also underpins the latest Range Rover Sport. Meanwhile, the electric Range Rover Sport is also in development.
In addition to its electric SUV ventures, JLR is also working on an ultra-luxury range of vehicles and a Defender rally raid vehicle. The company is planning the reveal of the electric version of its iconic Range Rover, though the specifics of this model are yet to be unveiled.
The new SUV, expected in the U.S. in 2026, will join the esteemed Range Rover family, marking an exciting step forward for JLR in the electric vehicle market. As the automotive industry continues to evolve, it's clear that JLR is committed to staying at the forefront of innovation.
