The much-anticipated iOS 26 update is set to bring a significant change for iPhone users, as the calculator app will once again feature a dedicated button. This is a response to user feedback following the removal of the button in the revamped calculator app in iOS 18.

In the previous version, the calculator app was redesigned with new features, such as math notes, but the button for the calculator was conspicuously absent. This decision was particularly frustrating for power users of the calculator, leading to negative reactions from the user community.

The change also saw the plus/minus key being moved from its traditional position and becoming the C/AC key in the calculator app. In iOS 26, however, the plus/minus key returns to its standard layout, now located in the bottom left position.

The C/AC key in the calculator app in iOS 26 serves a different purpose. Instead of acting as a plus/minus key, it now deletes the entire number entered in a calculation when pressed. The second key in the calculator app, on the other hand, is the new home for the plus/minus key.

The calculator app in iOS 26 also includes a backspace key, which deletes one number at a time when pressed. This addition should make calculations easier and more error-free for users.

Currently, the calculator app in iOS 26 is in the beta phase of developer tests and public beta tests. The release of iOS 26 with all new features, including the updated calculator app, is scheduled to be available as a free software update in September.

Unfortunately, the developer who reinstated the iPhone calculator button in iOS 26 has not been publicly named in the available information. Regardless, this small yet impactful change is sure to be welcomed by iPhone users who rely on the calculator app for their daily tasks.
