New Multipurpose Boat Strengthens Fire and Disaster Protection in the District
In a significant development for the safety of its citizens, a new multipurpose boat has been stationed at the Woerth fire department. The boat, capable of performing a wide range of tasks, was officially handed over on August 28, 2025, and a test drive was conducted on August 31.
State Councilor Tanja Schweiger, who attended the test drive, praised the new boat as an important gain for the safety of the citizens. The new multipurpose boat is designed to provide quick and reliable assistance on the Danube and its tributaries, and it will be a crucial main deployment tool for the fire department.
The boat is equipped to perform various tasks, including rescue operations, combating oil spills, managing flood situations, drawing barriers into the water during oil incidents, and even evacuations. It also supports searches for missing persons and contributes to fire and disaster protection within the supra-regional task area according to the Bavarian Fire Protection Act.
The new boat is a powerful and reliable piece of equipment, as demonstrated during the test drive. The previous boat, which had been in use for 29 years, was outdated and its further operation would not have been sensible due to unavailability and high cost of spare parts.
The replacement acquisition of the new boat was financially supported by grants from the Free State of Bavaria. The then district fire chief, Wolfgang Scheuerer, initiated the replacement procurement of the multipurpose boat in 2024, but the search results do not contain information about the name of the District Fire Chief who oversaw the project's completion.
