New Record Winnings for Pool Victory at the Royal Ascot Racecourse
In an exhilarating week at Royal Ascot, the World Pool bet types saw a staggering total turnover of HK$1426.1m (£144m), marking a significant milestone in the racing industry.
The coverage of World Pool extended to all races in relevant meetings for Full meetings, selected races in relevant meetings for Part meetings, and only on this race in relevant meetings for Single races. This comprehensive coverage ensured that punters had ample opportunities to place their bets.
The week's highlight was the victory of Rashabar in the Coventry Stakes, setting a new record for the highest ever payout in a World Pool race since its launch in 2019, with a record Win dividend of 129.90.
Billy Loughnane, the current leader of the World Pool Jockeys' Championship, rode Rashabar to victory, putting him in a strong position to win £50,000 to donate to a charity of his choice. Oisin Murphy, the nearest pursuer, currently stands on 72.25 points, making the race for the championship intense and exciting.
The Tote's performance was impressive, with the Exacta beating Forecast in 31 races, and the Trifecta beating Tricast in 28 races. The Tote operated with an overround of 113%, significantly lower than the industry overround of 124%.
The Moment of the Day initiative, part of World Pool, rewarded five yards with cheques for £4,000 each. These winning grooms are now in with a chance of a VIP trip to Hong Kong next year.
The week saw 20 winning overpays for World Pool punters betting with the Tote in the UK and Ireland. Alastair Warwick, Chief Executive at Ascot Racecourse, noted that on-course attendance and betting turnover were both up year-on-year.
The highest turnover race of the week was Saturday's Group 3 Jersey Stakes, which was up on 2023 by 20% to hit HK$52.1m (£5.25m). Gold Cup Day had the highest turnover of the week with HK$298.2m (£30.1m), followed by Prince of Wales's Stakes Day with HK$297.8m (£30m) and Commonwealth Cup Day with HK$283.5m (£28.6m).
Looking ahead, the next World Pool event is Irish Derby Day on Saturday, with a series of exciting races lined up in June, including the Irish Derby, Eclipse Stakes, Durban July Day, Deutsches Derby Day, King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes Day, Champions Cup Day, Grosser Preis Bayerisches Zuchtrennen Day, Goodwood Cup Day, Sussex Stakes Day, Nassau Stakes Day, Preis der Diana, Grosser Preis von Berlin Day, International Stakes Day, Yorkshire Oaks Day, and Nunthorpe Stakes Day.
Michael Fitzsimons, Executive Director of Wagering Products at the HKJC, congratulated Billy Loughnane for riding his first Royal Ascot winner and leading the World Pool Jockeys' Championship. As the championship continues, the race for the £50,000 donation to a charity of the leading rider's choice promises to be a thrilling one.
