New sighting of the HP Slate reappears

Samsung's Galaxy Pad and Research In Motion's PlayBook have already made their debut, but it seems Hewlett Packard is gearing up to join the fray with their own tablet offering. The company has confirmed that their WebOS tablet, known as the PalmPad, is set for an early 2011 launch, making it the first HP tablet to be confirmed for a specific launch date.

Initially, HP had considered using the Windows 7 operating system for their tablet, but they have since decided to use the WebOS instead. The PalmPad will run on this operating system, similar to the webOS tablet by HP, which was officially released in early 2011.

While the specifications of the PalmPad, such as its screen size and resolution, have not been disclosed, images of another HP tablet, the HP Slate, have surfaced. The Slate features a touch-sensitive screen measuring 8.9 inches with a resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels. However, it's important to note that the PalmPad is not the same as the HP Slate.

The HP Slate retains the same look, featuring a diamond pattern at the rear and an integrated camera. While the Slate runs the full version of Windows 7, enabling the use of numerous web apps, the PalmPad's web app capabilities remain unknown.

Interestingly, Hewlett Packard has ruled out a Windows 7 based tablet for the mass market. The PalmPad, being a new addition to HP's tablet lineup, is expected to be primarily aimed at the enterprise sector. This decision might be seen as a strategic move, considering the success of tablets like the iPad in the consumer market.

As for the HP Slate, it's almost ready and might be seen on store shelves by November. However, Hewlett Packard is yet to launch a tablet for the mass market, with only spy pictures and leaked images available.

The PalmPad is expected to be ready by the time of CES 2011, where more details about this new tablet are likely to be revealed. The Android operating system was also considered for the PalmPad, but it seems to be reserved for a tablet bundled with their upcoming Zeus printer model.

Stay tuned for more updates on the PalmPad and other exciting developments in the world of technology.
