New Traffic Signal and Signage Contract Granted in Staffordshire

Swarco UK & Ireland has secured a new five-year contract with Staffordshire County Council for the maintenance of traffic signals in the county. This partnership, which dates back to 1999, has been instrumental in modernizing Staffordshire's traffic network and delivering lasting improvements to its infrastructure.

Under the terms of the contract, Swarco will be responsible for any upgrades and traffic management requirements within the highways system. The company will also manage necessary permits for all works, including civils, throughout the contract period.

Swarco will maintain traffic signals at 186 junctions and 384 pedestrian crossings across Staffordshire. This includes the management of 120 Vehicle Activated Signs and 124 dual-flasher signs. Moreover, the company will coordinate multiple contractors for the project.

The partnership between Staffordshire County Council and Swarco supports the council's strategic commitment to keeping Staffordshire connected, safe, and moving.

Meanwhile, the fourth annual CiTTi Awards, an unmissable event for the UK's transportation sector, will recognise achievements and innovations in traffic management on 25 November 2025 at De Vere Grand Connaught Rooms in London. More information about the awards can be found at www.cittiawards.co.uk.

While no specific achievements or innovations related to the Staffordshire County Council and Swarco partnership were mentioned in this year's CiTTi Awards, it is worth noting that Emily Madsen was the winner of the CiTTi Award 2025, which honours achievements and innovations in traffic management.

The contract includes an option for a three-year extension, providing Swarco with the opportunity to continue its work in modernizing Staffordshire's traffic network.
