New wheelchair courses set to debut in our city, announced with an eccentric flair as Spatenstik.
In the heart of our city, a unique and inspiring project is taking shape. The lower meadow by the skate park in the city park will soon be home to an innovative wheelchair and rollator course.
This initiative, a key part of the city's action plan to implement the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UN CRPD), aims to bring the ideas of inclusion, integration, and intergenerationality to life in our city.
The groundbreaking ceremony for this project was recently held, with city officials, the Disability and Inclusion Council, and the Senior Citizens' Working Group in attendance. The event marked the beginning of a journey that seeks to enhance the quality of life for people with disabilities and strengthen community spirit.
The course, planned adjacent to the skate park, addresses a common challenge faced by many with disabilities: even small height differences can pose significant obstacles. By testing various types of ground cover, including cobblestones, gravel, and wood chips, the project aims to create a more accessible and inclusive environment for all.
The identity of the person who proposed this idea remains a mystery, adding an air of intrigue to the project. However, Malina Kulik, the new Inclusion Officer for the city, is leading the charge to make this vision a reality.
