NFL Debut Season Recollections from Liam Anderson '22
Liam Anderson, a former standout player at Holy Cross, has fulfilled his lifelong dream of playing in the NFL. Despite not being drafted, the undrafted free agent signed with the Indianapolis Colts immediately after the NFL draft.
Anderson spent five years as a cornerstone of the Crusader defence, earning him a spot at the Holy Cross Football Pro Day alongside fellow players Peter Oliver, John Smith, and Derek Ng. It was here that the Colts took notice of Anderson's potential.
The 2023 season saw Anderson spend most of his time on the Colts' practice squad, honing his skills and preparing the offense for defensive looks. His hard work paid off when he was called up to the active roster for the first time in Week 17, in a game with major playoff implications.
Anderson made his debut in a Colts victory against the Las Vegas Raiders, 23-20. Since then, he has credited his fellow linebackers and a close-knit group for helping him improve as a player.
As the Colts prepare for the 2024 season, they have a promising new head coach in Shane Steichen. Steichen, who previously worked as an NFL coach, has shown a knack for making key decisions, notably choosing Daniel Jones over Anthony Richardson as starting quarterback for the 2025 season based on leadership, consistency, and execution on the field.
Despite playing for the Colts, Anderson considers himself an essential part of the Crusader family. He has expressed his intention to visit the Holy Cross campus soon and attend the Crusaders' pro day and Spring Game.
The Indianapolis Colts had a rough 2022 campaign, but with Steichen at the helm, they are poised for a successful 2024 season. Anderson, now a key player on the team, is optimistic about the future and believes that Steichen has the potential to be a Coach of the Year contender.
After the end of the 2023 regular season, Anderson signed a reserve/future contract with the Indianapolis Colts. He plans to continue training at the Colts' facility during the offseason, ready to make an impact in the upcoming season.
