The National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) has announced the dates for the upcoming practical exams for Class 10 and 12 students. The exams will be held from the 12th of September to the 27th of September in 2025.

These practical exams are compulsory for subjects such as science, home science, painting, computer applications, and vocational courses. Students are required to attend practicals and viva to qualify and pass successfully. The examinations will be conducted at selected study centers and partner schools affiliated with NIOS.

Each exam will have a duration of 3 hours. The duration of the theory exams, which will be held from October to November 2025, is yet to be announced.

The NIOS results are generally declared 6 to 7 weeks after the last theory exam. Students can check their results online on the official website using their enrolment details. The NIOS date sheet 2025 PDF can be downloaded from the official website for reference.

To prepare for the NIOS exams 2025, students are advised to understand the complete syllabus and exam pattern, make a realistic study timetable, use NIOS study material as the main resource, practice past papers and sample questions regularly, revise key formulas, definitions, and concepts often, give equal attention to theory and practical subjects, write short notes for quick last-minute revision, manage time wisely while solving practice papers, stay consistent with daily study instead of cramming, eat well, sleep properly, and take breaks to stay fresh.

Each subject carries 100 marks in both Class 10 and 12 exams. However, for certain subjects, the weightage of theory and practical marks differs. For instance, in Class 10, subjects like Language, Science & Technology, Mathematics, Social Science, Home Science, Business Studies / Economics, and Painting & Practical-based subjects have different weightage in theory and practical marks. Similarly, for Class 12, subjects like Language, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics, History, Political Science, Geography, Economics, Commerce (Business Studies, Accountancy), Home Science, Computer Science / Data Entry / IT subjects have different weightage in theory and practical marks.

Passing marks for both theory and practical components separately is 33% for both classes. The NIOS exam pattern for the September-October 2025 session for Class 10 and 12 is available on the official website.

The primary books followed for NIOS are the official study materials provided by NIOS itself, which can be downloaded as PDFs from the official website. For Class 10, key subjects like English, Hindi, Mathematics, Science, and Social Science are covered in these materials. For Class 12, subjects across Science, Arts, and Commerce streams, including Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Accountancy, and History, are included. Additionally, NIOS offers supplementary guides from publishers like Neeraj Publications and TOP Publications, available on Amazon.in, which include solved papers and MCQs. Students can also refer to NCERT textbooks for foundational knowledge, as NIOS follows a similar curriculum framework. Always verify subject codes and syllabus updates on the official website to ensure accuracy.

The NIOS theory exams for both Class 10 and 12 will be conducted from October to November 2025. Students are encouraged to prepare diligently and make the most of the resources available to them to achieve their best.
