In a recent development, Italian footballer Nicolo Zaniolo has been cleared of major allegations surrounding illegal sports betting, as reported by Gazzetta dello Sport on March 26, 2024.

The investigation, which included the analysis of Zaniolo's mobile devices, revealed that he did not participate in any illegal sports betting. His interrogation by the public prosecutor's office in Turin on October 27, 2023, provided no evidence to the contrary.

However, it has been confirmed that Zaniolo admitted to occasionally playing poker and blackjack on illegal platforms. As a result, a fine of several thousand euros is expected for Zaniolo. It's important to note that these platforms do not appear to have had an Italian gambling license.

Zaniolo's lawyers expect the investigation against him to be closed soon. As of August 2025, there is no available information indicating that Zaniolo is involved in any legal dispute related to illegal sports betting or gambling on poker and blackjack.

It's worth mentioning that Zaniolo has stated that he had never been subjected to threats or intimidation, and that he has no debts. The report by Gazzetta dello Sport can be found in Italian.

While Zaniolo has faced legal and disciplinary matters in the past, related to a physical altercation with two AS Roma youth players, the current status is that he faces no legal issues related to illegal sports betting or gambling.

What about Zaniolo's involvement in illegal sports betting has been cleared, but he admitted to playing poker and blackjack on illegal platforms, for which a fine is expected. Despite this, other players like Sandro Tonali and Nicolo Fagioli have faced more severe penalties for their alleged betting activities.
