Nordhorn city revises rent for eligible tenants

The city of Nordhorn is taking steps to ensure accurate and up-to-date rental prices by updating its qualified rental index. This index, which has been in operation since January 1, 2024, is an independent tool based on objective criteria and serves as a valuable resource for avoiding legal disputes over rent prices.

As per the Rental Index Ordinance of July 1, 2022, participation in the survey is mandatory for around 1,500 landlords in Nordhorn. These landlords will be invited to participate in the survey by mail in July 2025. The city encourages active participation from landlords for an up-to-date and reliable rental index.

Landlords will receive a letter with access to a digital questionnaire for easy and quick online completion. The data collected from the survey will be used to update the rental index, which will be published at the beginning of 2026.

To ensure transparency and reliability, the city has commissioned FUB IGES Wohnen+Immobilien+Umwelt GmbH from Hamburg to carry out the survey and scientific evaluation. A detailed documentation will provide insight into the methodology and creation process of the updated rental index.

The updated rental index will be based on current market data and will aim to provide transparent orientation for tenants and landlords. The local comparative rents will be available as a free brochure and through a digital rental index calculator. The data of the current rental index 2024 can be accessed at www.our website/mietspiegel.

It's important to note that the rental index adjustment is required every two years according to § 558c of the German Civil Code (BGB). The qualified rental index helps to avoid legal disputes over rent prices and provides a valuable resource for both tenants and landlords.

The city of Nordhorn looks forward to the active participation of its landlords in updating the rental index, ensuring a reliable and transparent rental market for all.
