Nordic Semiconductor Acquires Memfault, Provider of Connected Product Cloud Platform

In a significant move, Nordic Semiconductor announced on June 24, 2025, the acquisition of Memfault, a cloud platform provider for large-scale deployments of connected products. This acquisition marks a statement of intent to lead the way in addressing current and future market demands.

The merged solution from Nordic Semiconductor and Memfault promises to simplify, speed up, and secure the development, maintenance, and improvement of connected products throughout their lifecycle. Nordic's software and cloud services, combined with Memfault's capabilities, enhance their leadership position in the global semiconductor landscape.

Nordic will integrate Memfault's capabilities across its entire product portfolio and into its existing nRF Cloud services platform. Memfault's offerings include device observability and management, as well as secure over-the-air (OTA) software updates, ensuring high device reliability without field returns. This integration will enable continuous software upgrades throughout the product lifecycle, strengthening security, performance, power consumption, and functionality of products in the field.

Francois Baldassari, CEO of Memfault, expressed that their shared goal is to free customers and engineers to innovate while the platform guarantees reliability and insights for millions of products in the field. Vegard Wollan, CEO of Nordic Semiconductor, stated that the world-class Systems-on-Chip from Nordic, paired with Memfault's cloud platform, creates an unmatched full-stack solution for connected products.

As IoT nodes become more intelligent through edge AI, and as security standards evolve under frameworks like the EU Cyber Resilience Act, Nordic's software and cloud services will equip product developers with comprehensive tools to stay ahead of industry and regulatory expectations. This acquisition is expected to make it easier for product developers to stay ahead of these trends, particularly in the context of evolving security standards and edge AI in IoT nodes.

Nordic is committed to supporting all IoT device makers, including all existing Memfault customers, regardless of their hardware choice. The merged company aims to enable thousands of customers to interact with millions of devices in the field. With this acquisition, Nordic Semiconductor now offers a comprehensive platform that simplifies development and accelerates time-to-market.

Nordic and Memfault share a broad base of mutual customers and common markets. This deal enhances Nordic Semiconductor's leadership position in addressing current and future market demands. The combination of Nordic's ultra-low power wireless connectivity solutions with Memfault's cloud services sets a new standard in the global semiconductor landscape. The acquisition by Nordic Semiconductor of Memfault is declared as a statement of intent to continue leading the way in connected product solutions.
