North Korea deletes all evidence of Kim Jong Un's encounter with Putin, reports Reuters
In a remarkable display of security and privacy, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has been observed adhering to a unique protocol during his international meetings. This practice, which dates back to his father and predecessor, Kim Jong Il, involves bringing a personal toilet and meticulous cleaning procedures.
During the summits with Donald Trump in Hanoi in 2019 and with South Korean President Moon Jae-in, Kim Jong Un's security team was seen carefully cleaning hotel rooms and removing items after the meetings. The same was observed before his 2023 summit with Putin, where his aides not only disinfected the chair but also checked it with a metal detector.
Two of Kim Jong Un's aides were seen wiping the back and armrests of the chair he sat on, as well as the coffee table beside it. The North Korean staff's meticulous cleaning was also evident in the room where Kim Jong Un and Vladimir Putin met, as reported by Reuters.
The special toilet is used to prevent foreign intelligence agencies from acquiring samples for testing, according to Michael Madden, an expert on North Korean leadership at the US-based Stimson Center. This measure is in place to maintain the secrecy surrounding the North Korean leader's activities.
Before Kim Jong Un's 2018 meeting with Moon Jae-in, North Korean security personnel sprayed the chair and desk with sanitizer and thoroughly wiped them down. The North Korean leader's drinking glass was also removed during the cleaning process.
The handling of Kim Jong Un's excrements is tightly controlled and guarded by his aides or handlers. It is known that Kim Jong Un personally used his own toilet carriage aboard his train during visits.
The Kremlin journalist who shared a video of the cleaning process on Telegram is Alexander Yunashev. This practice of bringing one's own toilet is a standard protocol that dates back to Kim Jong Il, Kim Jong Un's father and predecessor. These measures are in place to conceal any clues about Kim Jong Un's health and maintain the secrecy surrounding his activities.
