Northwestern Medicine launches South Side facility offering urgent care, cancer treatment center, and additional healthcare services
New Northwestern Medicine Facility Opens in Bronzeville, Chicago
A new healthcare facility, Northwestern Medicine, has recently opened its doors in the heart of Bronzeville, Chicago. Located at 4822 S. Cottage Grove Ave., the facility was initially designed to span 80,000-square-feet, but due to community feedback, it has been expanded to a more substantial 120,000-square-feet.
Dr. Kimbra Bell, the Medical Director, shared that at least 1,000 patients from the surrounding zip codes access a Northwestern Medicine facility each day. The new Bronzeville location aims to cater to this demand and more.
The facility offers 14 specialties, including immediate care, pediatrics (which was added after community feedback), and women's health. It also provides various diagnostic imaging services such as MRI, CT, Ultrasound, X-ray, DEXA, and screening mammography. Additionally, physical therapy and mental health services will be available.
The fifth floor houses a cancer centre, offering medical oncology and infusion services, dermatology, and cardiovascular services.
The facility's location near a closed Walmart and other failed stores indicates new growth in the area. Jabarri Tucker, a long-time resident, thinks the facility is revitalizing the community, while Charlene Odum, a resident of the area, believes the facility's proximity will encourage more South Side patients to manage their health.
Walk-in appointments are available for immediate care at the facility, and Northwestern Medicine also plans to offer fitness and cooking classes at the Bronzeville location. The Bronzeville Community Health Organization will also offer fitness and cooking classes at the new health center in Bronzeville.
General appointments can be made through Northwestern's website. For those seeking immediate care, the facility stands ready to assist. The opening of Northwestern Medicine in Bronzeville marks a significant step forward in healthcare accessibility for the community.
