Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz are set to make history at the 2023 US Open, as they face off in their first Grand Slam semi-final encounter.

The 38-year-old Djokovic, a seven-time Grand Slam champion, has reached the last four at all four majors this year, but he faces a challenging opponent in the form of the 23-year-old Spanish sensation, Carlos Alcaraz.

Alcaraz, who is currently on a 35-match winning streak, is considered the favorite to win the men's singles title at the 2025 US Open due to his outstanding form this season. He has already won six titles, including Roland Garros and the Cincinnati Open, and reached the final in every event he's played since April.

Alcaraz's main rival, Jannik Sinner, has had to withdraw from the tournament due to illness, leaving a clear path for Alcaraz to claim victory. Sinner, who is aiming to defend his US Open crown, has won the Australian Open and Wimbledon titles this season but lost to Alcaraz in the French Open final.

Djokovic, who has concerns about his physical state due to previous injuries, is determined to compete in the semi-finals. He has previously beaten Alcaraz in four sets at the Australian Open quarter-finals this year, but Alcaraz is eager to avenge his last two losses to Djokovic, who is 5-3 lifetime against the Spaniard.

Meanwhile, Felix Auger-Aliassime (CAN x25) has triumphed in two of three previous meetings with Sinner but lost to him for the loss of just two games in Cincinnati last month. Auger-Aliassime has made it to his second US Open semi-final and is in the last four of a Grand Slam for the first time since 2021.

The US Open semi-final between Sinner and Auger-Aliassime will be a significant challenge for both players. Auger-Aliassime plans to focus more on his own game rather than Sinner's strategy for their match.

On the other hand, Alcaraz has not dropped a set at the US Open semi-finals and believes Djokovic's absence from the tour since Wimbledon will not affect his strategy. Djokovic's nutritional regime and holistic approach, which includes yoga and meditation, are key to his longevity, but it remains to be seen if they will be enough to overcome the young Spaniard.

The winner of the Djokovic-Alcaraz match will face the victor of the Sinner-Auger-Aliassime semi-final in the final, with both matches promising to be exciting contests. Djokovic has denied Alcaraz gold at the 2024 Paris Olympics, and the Spaniard will be eager to secure his place in tennis history by winning the US Open.
